Independence Day

I hope you all had an excellent Fourth of July weekend! I know I did! I’m going to tell you all about it. But first, let me start by saying a few things. I want to express my love for this wonderful country. I feel so blessed to live here and now. What an amazing time and place to be! I get to be a woman who is an equal partner with her husband and plays an important role in society. I have the opportunity to say, do, wear, and believe what my heart tells me is right. And so does everyone else here. I get to wear whatever I feel like without worrying. I don’t have to hide my religious beliefs. My girls can grow up and make their own choices too. While I hope they will make wise and righteous choices, they will not be forced into anything by their country. My life is so blessed because of my Heavenly Father and my country. That being said, here’s how we chose to spend our Independence Day!
I started off my day by sleeping in. My husband, Matt, had the day off and let me get an extra bit if sleep. He knows I get up a lot in the night with our baby. So when he has mornings off he gets up with the girls and lets me sleep. It makes all the difference. I’m one lucky woman!
When I got up Matt told me he wanted to go to an all you can eat breakfast along the parade route. There was only an hour until the parade started so we rushed to get ready. We made it there with time to spare. Surprisingly, we found a great parking spot right behind where we set up. We put up our camping chairs on the sidewalk and Matt went to get our breakfast. Who knew we could get an awesome spot without saving it two days in advance? Matt came and spoiled us with pancakes, eggs, and sausage while we waited for the parade to start.
The parade was great! It started out with free donuts from MadBrook Donuts. Our little Lyla loved hers.

Then Lyla and Daddy went to the road to get candy.

Lyla loved it!!! We didn’t stay for the whole thing. We left about 15 or 20 minutes in. Both girls got grumpy and hot so we went home to take a break. I had had my reservations about going to the parade. I don’t normally like them. But it was loads of fun! Good thing I have Matt to pull me out of my comfort zone.
Our baby, Alaina, took a nap. Then Mimi came over to go to the park. We walked through the booths, got Lyla a fan and some magnets, then Mimi took her to get her face painted.

She always wants her face painted. After that Lyla got to play on the blow up toys while Alaina and I cooled off in the shade.

Then it was time for some shaved ice and another break from the summer sun.
Next we went to my brother’s house for dinner. My sister-in-law made pulled pork sandwiches. She also made shredded chicken cause she knows I don’t like pork. So thoughtful! It was delicious.

Last we went to my brother-in-law’s for fireworks. Lyla was scared of them so she stayed in the house. Alaina liked watching them but fell asleep after a few. She was so cute laying on my shoulder.

We got to bed around 11:30-12:00 but Lyla fell asleep in the car.

What a crazy day! I didn’t get a chance to get any good pictures of the girls in their outfits. But maybe I’ll try tomorrow. That’s all for now!
